All club rides set out from the Bridge car park in Shipston on Stour. All Sunday groups leave at 9.30am. If you are joining us for the first time please arrive slightly earlier and introduce yourself to a ride leader or to Alex Macrae, the ride Captain who will provide more information to what it provided below.

Shipston CC offer four rides most Sundays for a range of abilities and fitness levels (A to D). The exact speed and distances given can vary significantly depending on the terrain, weather and time of year, so the average speeds below are just a guide. Rides are generally between 25 and 40 miles during the winter and 30 to 65 miles during the summer. Note: The 60 mile rides are held monthly for A to C groups. Riding as a group will increase your average speed by up to a couple of miles an hour compared to a solo ride if you are confident of holding the wheel in front. Each group will have a dedicated ride leader each week, which is published with the routes details below.

A Ride: 17-19mph, circa 30 to 40 miles in winter, 40 to 65 in summer.
For confident, experienced riders.

B Ride: 15-17mph, circa 30 to 40 miles in winter, 40 to 65 in summer. Usually the same route as A.
For confident, experienced riders who prefer a slower pace to A.

C Ride: 13-15mph circa 30 to 35 miles in winter, up to 40 miles in summer with one monthly 50 to 60 mile route. Note: Whenever there are 60 mile routes published, there will always be an option to ride in a combined A to C group at a normal 30 to 40 mile distance.
For fit newcomers, recovering riders and those confident and experienced riders that prefer a slower pace to B. This tends to be the biggest club group.

D Ride: 12-14mph circa 20 to 30 miles in winter, up to 35 miles in summer
For newcomers, recovering riders and those that prefer a slower pace to C.

For the benefit and enjoyment of all riders, it’s important that you chose the correct group (speak to our ride leaders or Alex if you’re not sure). Cycling too far outside of your comfort zone can make for a hard day in the saddle and whilst inclusivity is at the heart of all club rides, it can be frustrating for you and for the group if abilities are too varied. If you are regularly off the back or off the front then you’re probably in the wrong ride. Group sizes will always be limited to 12 to meet British Cycling recommendations. Where are group size is greater or equal to 13, then they will be split into 2 groups of roughly equal size.

Sometimes this page won’t get updated until a day or two before the ride so please do check back – particularly during the winter months as all routes are weather dependent.

We ride every Sunday of the year in most weather conditions unless it is deemed unsafe to do so. Please do make sure that you are subscribed to the what’s app group’s in order to receive live information about our rides.
